Is there any really effective treatment of neuroblastoma in children?

5 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Yes: Thankfully treatment of neuroblastoma has improved dramatically over the last decade. That is not to say that all children are curable; the outcome is greatly dependent on the risk stratification that your oncologist perform to tailor treatment. As expected children in the high risk group do not do as well as those in the low risk group.

YES!: The standard treatment depends on the risk assessment. Even high risk disease is treatable. The treatment for high risk involves chemotherapy, surgery, bone marrow rescue, radiation and immune-therapy. This treatment takes a total of about 18 months. The treatment is thought to be curable for 60-70% of patients. This is very effective therapy.

Yes: A lot depends upon the age of diagnosis and tissue type. Treatment will involve surgery and most likely some form of chemotherapy and ongoing surveillance.
