A member asked:

Sometimes take aspirin and steroids for her chest as she has copd. is this something i should make her see her gp about?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See a Pulmonologist (lung doctor): Anyone with COPD who is taking steroids should have a complete evaluation by a lung specialist. First the diagnosis of COPD should be confirmed by performing breathing tests. Also other causes of symptoms should be ruled out. Sometimes COPD is treated with inhalers that contain steroids. Oral steroids are used for short periods for exacerbation of disease but their long term use can be harmful. Aspirin is not used for treatment of COPD. It may have been prescribed for something else.
