What is purpose of pyrazynamide (pza) in tb treatment and what may happen if not taken at all?

Synergistic effect: Administration of PZA (Pyrazinamide) for the first 2 months with Isonizid and Rifampin followed by 4 mo of Isoniazid and Rifampin allows 6-month treatment regimen for pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB (except meningitis). This shorter treatment regimen provides advantage of higher compliance and less drug resistance.
