Could be PVD.: Severe leg cramp at night should not be confused with severe leg cramp when you are lying down. The difference being lying down. This can be a very early symptom of peripheral vascular insufficiency. Meaning the blood flow to the leg may not be strong enough when you are lying. Try lying in bed any other time and see if you have cramping . Try elevating you leg. To remove all doubt, see a doctor.
