A member asked:

Quitting smoking with help from patches, could this work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Of course it COULD: the success rate of smoking cessation efforts without any help at all is less than 5%. If nicotine replacement therapy is added (patches, gum etc.) the quit rate can go up to 10-15%, and if a smoking cessation program is added, this can improve chances up to 25-30%. The best results are from the use of prescription meds (Zyban, Chantix) combined with a program, with quit rates nearing 45%.
