Toddler illness: If there is any question that she is having difficulty breathing, then the answer is the ER. If the fast and heavy breathing is because she is congested, then it is okay to give her a fever reducer and lots of fluids and see how she responds. Good Luck.

Fever Control: If your baby's breathing improves when her fever is controlled with ibuprofen and/or acetaminophen and she is drinking and eating then treat at home and see your pediatrician. If she continues to have breathing problems, or the breathing problems are severe, bring her into the emergency department to be seen. If in doubt bring her in to be checked.
