Depends: There are better tests available now. The so called 3 dot tests depends on the presence of antibodies and may not turn positive for up to a year after the infection. All positive results need to be confirmed. Test for HIV nucleic acid is more sensitive and specific however, even this test also may not turn positive for about 6 weeks after infection.
