Riluzole for ALS: Riluzole only slows the progression of ALS but does not cure it. There is no cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and there is only one approved medicine to treat the disease is Riluzole. Unfortunately, it has no lasting effect.

Somewhat: We know it delays need for tracheostomy, but does NOT improve strength or mobility. Certainly not a cure, but sole drug approved by FDA currently on market.

Riluzole efficacy: Some people respond better to riluzole than others, but most neurologists agree that riluzole delays progression of ALS by a few months compared to not treating with riluzole.
