A member asked:

How long can a fever last in a toddler with a viral illness? it comes and goes. fever began 3 days ago.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Up to a week: Many viral illnesses that would last 24-48 hr in an adult will remain symptomatic in toddlers for a week. As long as they keep up with their fluid needs (wet at least every 6-8 hr) their system will usually self heal. A worsening of symptoms or change in behaviors may indicate a new secondary infection requiring a recheck.
