A member asked:

I have on and off weird muscle pains & twitches all over my body. how to test for creatine phosphokinase/cpk? and what can testing for cpk find out ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CPK testing: CPK can be tested in the blood. No fasting is needed, it is a routine blood draw. CPK is released into blood by muscles when they are injured. A car accident, running a marathon, dehydration or certain types of conditions that affect muscles elevate the CPK level. Muscle pains and twitches are best evaluated for by electrolyte and thyroid hormone levels.
