I think that you are right: It may be that your diet is what makes you hyperactive. Get rid of all sugary sweet stuff and try a supplement of vitamin B complex. You may well then be able to get rid of your Ritalin (methylphenidate).

2nd opinion: If your doctor is not working with you and taking your concerns about a 25 pound weight loss seriously, I suggest getting a second opinion. It is too much weight loss not to intervene. There are several alternatives to Ritalin (methylphenidate) that have little effect on appetite and weight.

That is crazy: It's crazy for your doctor to not try and lower your dose of Ritalin (methylphenidate). Over 100 mgs per day is not a low dose. Higher doses are associated with more side effects than lower doses and Ritalin (methylphenidate) has many side effects, especially with long term use. Seek out a new doctor, looking for one who will work with you. I try and treat ADHD without stimulants and am usually successful. Good luck :-)

Consider nonstim alt: It might be worth considering strattera, wellbutrin (bupropion) or imiprimine -non-stimulant alternatives that might replace ritalin or allow you to reduce the dose

Further Discussion: You will want to try to discuss this further with your doctor. If Ritalin (methylphenidate) is the reason you have lost weight, then it is reasonable to look at adjusting the dosage, or possibly changing medications. If you weight is truly down to 105 lbs, you are underweight for your height and this issue needs to be discussed.

Ritalin (methylphenidate) effects: I understand your distress. Loss of 25 lbs. can be due to side effect of Ritalin (methylphenidate), (methylphenidate) Depression, or a Medical condition. See a Physician for possible Medical Diagnosis, discuss your symptoms for which Ritalin (methylphenidate) was prescribed, dose, side effects, your functioning, and desire to decrease the dose. Request the Physician for referral to a Psychiatrist for Therapy and medication for your Diagnosis.
