Mood Stabilizer: Lithium acts on a person's central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Mechanism of how lithium works to stabilize a person's mood is not known, but it is thought to help strengthen nerve cell connections in brain regions that are involved in regulating mood, thinking and behavior. Better: Bipolar disorder feels horrible when untreated. It is like living in a brain trapped in terror or despair with periods of elation. Anything is better. Lithium will make you feel more consistent and better able to enjoy life. It will also take away the manic phases which some people like having even though they are very much impaired during these. Some patients find this boring.

Lithium: Mostly sleepy or drowsy. I had a patient fall asleep in her car waiting for your child at school several times when first started. Of course, if you are having trouble sleeping, even a subtherapeutic bedtime dose may be just what the doctor ordered, so to speak.

Lithium makes you: feel like your in Texas. Supposedly there is a lot of Lithium in the natural water supply in a good part of Texas. Some attribute a decreased incidence of Bipolar Disease in this state to this. I suppose if you relay really like being manic your going to not like lithium. Otherwise for most its OK.

Mood is stabilized: Lithium carbonate is a natural substance found in the oceans (oxymetazoline) an queries close to salt and calcium carbonate. It was not created by a pharmaceutical company. It is an effective mood stabilizer and it is also considered to provide long term protection from suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts.
