All skeletal muscle: contracts=tightens under stress/ the fight or flight response. Laryngeal (voice box) muscles can be very sensitive to this and when they do, unfortunately they start to close the airway from spasming. Worse than humans are dogs e.g. gasping from excitability. This is why runners coaches always preach to run relaxed to keep a patent (open as much as possible) airway. Take care.
