Luteal phase: Luteal-phase defect (short luteal phase, LPD) is now know to be an extremely rare cause of infertility; although, it may still be important as a cause of recurring pregnancy loss. To diagnose LPD requires 2 timed endometrial biopsies, though many docs make a tentative diagnosis based on one. Talk with your own OBG about pros/cons and whether testing might be useful for you.

Short: It is short. It would be a good idea to see a GYN to see if you do have a luteal phase problem.

No: Not too short, but if you have tried for a year, it is best to do fertility studies and consider IVF if you can afford it.
