Speak with his MD: He needs clarification about his risks from his physician. It is low but depends on clinical and medical issues. We need more information to help you help him.

Unfortunately....: It is a greater than average possibility. But it is less likely in an otherwise stronger person. So, what would be best is to live as healthy a life style as possible - diet, rest, exercise, as low stress as possible. Also, working on acceptance of mortality is something we all are wise to do - even more w/ AIDS. It's not easy, but spiritual work can help all of us. Therapy can help. Best wishes!
