Yes: Dysfunctional uterine bleeding can be caused by endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, or other endocrine abnormalities. Ovulation and menstrual cycle may be affected as result of the underlying cause(s). However, it is possible to have normal ovulation despite having dysfunctional uterine bleeding. If the symptoms persistent, urgent exam and tests with your physician may be indicated.

Unusual bleeding: The unusual bleeding could have several causes, including hormonal changes associated when peri menopause and abnormal tissue lining the uterus. Because the latter is a possibility, it's best to see a gynecologist, who can perform tissue sampling.
