Trach with vent: Patients who have issues with their anatomy that would prevent effective ventilation with an endotracheal tube or those who may need ventilation for long periods of time are candidates for tracheostomy.

No: Only patients who are unable to breathe without the help of a ventilator for prolonged periods of time (usually more than 2 weeks) will require tracheostomy.
