A member asked:

I feel there is air in my knee. very nervous. scared to put pressure or exercise. no pain. is this serious and will it go away?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not serious: In 30 years of Orthopaedic practice I have never seen spontaneous air in a knee. If there is no pain, no click, no pop, no ligament looseness, no giving way, it is probably not serious. Gas gangrene is a serious infection causing gas under the skin, but I have never seen gas gangrene that was painless. Is there any history of injury? You could have fluid in the knee.
