Multiple diagnostics: A clinical diagnosis based on a polysomnogram, the multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale strongly indicates narcolepsy. A hypocretin deficiency in the CSF from the spinal tap indicates type 1 narcolepsy that is almost always associated with cataplexy.
