Mold most likely: while pesticides and other chemicals are put on fruit (a reason to consider washing them first), farmers try to use as little as possible for plain financial reasons. It's highly unlikely that one berry is going to taste very different from another due to sprays. On the other hand, even slight beginning mold tastes chemical/metallic/bad.
