Can ibs cause sharp stabbing pain in the same area when it flares. it is very mild in other areas, but almost non existent.

Not usually.: Usually pain from IBS is more diffuse and not described as a sharp pain. It also is not usually only in one place. Given your age, I would consider alternative possible reasons, such as diverticulitis or gallbladder disease, depending upon the location of the pain. If it persists, I would get checked out by your primary doctor.
