A member asked:

What do doctors use to treat peritonitis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

RxUnderlying Problem: Peritonitis is almost always secondary to an underlying problem in the abdominal cavity such as appendicitis, a perforated ulcer, or diverticulitis; therefore, rx is directed at those problems. Peritonitis may also occur due to chronic catheters in the abdomen (peritoneal dialysis, ascites)--this usually responds to antibiotics +/- catheter removal.
