Understand limits: The first statement on OSpA is definitive. The problem is the test itself. Done by Western blot, it detects the production of IgM that binds to OSpA. Given this, the test is not 100% specific. Why? There are other proteins made by yourself or something else other than Borellia, that may resemble OSpA IgM that bind to the OSpA protein in the test kit- resulting in a false "positive" on testing.

Serotype to other +?: OspA serotypes 3–6. Phase I/II studies with the multivalent vaccine have been initiated in humans to determine the optimal dose, formulation, and booster interval in Borrelia seronegative as well as Borrelia seropositive individuals. American patients with Lyme arthritis commonly had antibody responses to OspA, BicA, and OspD. I am not clear as to what may cross react with other substances +?
