Depends on the cause: Lactic acidosis is associated with a variety of conditions, including: shock, liver disease, kidney failure, medications (e.g. Metformin), some inborn errors of metabolism, etc. It's not so much the effects of the lactic acid; symptoms are usually the result of the underlying problem, and dealing with that underlying problem is the primary goal.
