Not DIY: The best you could do is to help your friend pay to the extraction done by a professional. This is not something that should ever be done at home with the exception of baby teeth. Most cities have clinics or programs available to assist those with limited funds to get care - some require that the "borrower" pay by doing community service. But do not do this at home!

Help...: You can help your friend by researching a reduced fee option in your area. A dental school or hospital program would be the way to go. Or you can help finance it for him. But there is no way you're going to extract that broken tooth for him.

Don't: Removing a tooth requires a professional. Go to many free care clinics around and the country or simply ask a dentist you know if they could help pro bono. You'll be surprised how many would.

Dangerous: Do it yourself dentistry is at best ineffective, at worse dangerous. You can do serious bodily harm to your friend. He needs professional care. Contact Social Services or your local Dental Society for reduced cost alternatives. Treatment is less expensive at a University Dental School. Most dental offices have payment plans. A broken tooth is a source infection that requires immediate care.
