A member asked:

If you have wheezing that does not come from the lungs, where might it be coming from and could it be a sing of something serious?

Stridor: High pitched wheezing like sounds can come from the soft palate or the laryngeal area. You are young and sleep apnea would be unlikely unless you are overweight. Allergies would be likely. Check with your doctor. Unless this came on suddenly unlikely serious.

Only the lungs: It is a sign of disease and needs to be attended. At your age it is usually from asthma or asthma like condition. Can be a sign of bronchitis. If you are smoker this can be making things worse. Very unusual to come from the heart . This would be water in the lungs to cause a problem from the heart. If your nose whistle it is not wheezing. See your doctor

Wheezing: it can come from the epiglottis or glottis area or possibly from the posterior pharynx with stressed forced expiration
