A member asked:

Is the achilles paratenon supposed to be perfectly smooth?

Yes: And your paratenon is likely smooth. Occasionally, you can have chronic Achilles tendinitis and it feels like a bump about 4cm proximal to its insertion site. The Achilles' tendon develops the bump, not the paratenon.
