Croup: So sorry your child is ill and I hope he recovers soon. To answer your question: croup is a viral infection and we do not make long term antibodies to every illness. Or you may have not encountered that particular illness your child may be exposed to so you would not have antibodies. You do have antibodies that are helpful just not to to every illness .

Relax: Breastfeeding provides for a reduction but not an elimination in risk of infections. At 3-4 mo the antibodies given baby through the placenta begin to wear off and they are expected to get some sort of upper respiratory virus about 5 times a year.Keep up the good work and don't consider his illness your fault.
