You probably: saved yourself from having to have it cut open. Incising an abscess treats it, and often times no further treatment is needed. If you develop fever or spreading redness, call your doctor. Hope this helps!

Watch for infection: I assume you are curious as to whether you did correct medical treatment. Boils are skin abscesses that need to drain for proper treatment. When you fell on your buttock, you caused it to open & drain. Generally antibiotics taken by mouth are not needed once the contents have come out. Keep it covered with clean bandaid daily after cleansing with antibacterial soap &topical antibiotic. w

Butt-First Bumper!!!: Well, doc, pretty good! I'll have to try that on a patient next time I work the ER! So, keep it clean and change the bandage periodically and see how it goes. If it gets better, great! You're lucky! If not getting better or getting worse you'll have two choices: 1) Go up to the third floor and jump out butt first or, 2) Go to your doctor for a more meticulous exam. It may have to be cleaned-out.
