TMJ TMD, no: Temporo-mandibular disorder is the second most frequent cause of orofacial pain after dental pain. There has been much confusion over this topic. The conclusion is TMDs are not self-limiting and require active treatment interventions. Proper diagnosis is the key to the successful treatment. See an orofacial pain practitioner for a consultation. They are the expert in this field.

Sometimes: Most TMD issues are self limiting but we still cannot predict with certainty which ones are and are not.

TMD/TMJ: While severe short term episodes of stress and bruxism (as divorce, moving, death of family, etc) might trigger mild TMJ symptoms such as muscle soreness and pain during chewing, most patients who suffer from TMD have issues in occlusion (bite) and jaw relationships that remain a problem and worsen in time if not addressed early. See a dentist with expertise in this area for evaluation.
