MRI: In the old days i used to inject contrast into the TMJ and do an arthrogram. These days, an exam using MRI will provide the same info and more. Much less uncomfortable.

MRI: The best way to detect a displaced disc is an MRI scan. But, if your joint is clicking you already know the disc is displaced. Usually MRI scans are reserved for patients no responding to conservative treatment.
