A mucolytic: If you have been checked and don't have an infection that needs to be treated, plain guaifensin or Robitussinn may be effective. This comes otc in the form of a capsule or liquid. Normally can be taken 4 times daily but increase your fluid intake, water, to improve your success rate. Mucinex (guaifenesin) comes in an extended release form and only needs to be taken twice daily. Good luck , follow up as needed.
