Don't worry: A hypertrophied anal papillae is essentially a large skin tag near your anus. I agree with your gastro, and I see them commonly as well. On occasion they can bleed, but this is very very rare. They will likely stay with you for the rest of your life. Occasionally, mostly for cosmetic reasons, patients ask that they be removed.
