A member asked:

I was told i have group b streptococcus but i'am not pregnant? i'm just abit confused does anything need to be done to get rid of the bacteria?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually not: Group b strep bacteria is a common bacteria to have in the vagina. Most of the time when present it is a colonizing bacteria meaning it lives there without causing an infection. I only treat it when I have a patient with a vaginal infection but no other cause, such as BV or yeast. So if someone has strep on a culture but no infection i don't treat it.
