Too broad a question: If it is injury related, it depends on what the injury is. Most injuries will get better on they own with rest. If it is a carriage tear, it might need arthroscopic surgery. If it is arthritis and there is a lot of degenerative disease, you might actually need a joint replacement. I recommend a careful evaluation by your internist, probably followed by an orthopedic evaluation.
