Anemia: Low HgB and low RBC are not enough. She definitely is anemic but we need more like Red cell indices, retic count , serum iron, TIBC and ferritin. With her bowel problem, he could have iron deficiency anemia. He therefore need more blood tests and GI work-up.

Iron deficiency: Not getting enough iron in the diet, blood loss, or bone marrow problems can cause those lab findings. At 54 he would benefit from a colonscopy to rule out slow bleeding from the intestine as a source of the anemia.

Needs colonoscopy: Anemia with bowel irregularities may be caused by colonic lesion which may be malignant. Need to get colonoscopy.
