Kidney disease: From a blood test, I suspect your internist is checking your BUN/Creatinine, makers of kidney function. Some BP medicines affect this parameter adversely and hence one needs a baseline value. Alternately, your doctor is further looking at GFR and/or microalbinuria to ascertain microscopic kidney disease. Either way, BP control is important.
