Weakness and injury: The Ankle is supported by ligaments on the outside &inside aspect. An ankle sprain means that either the medial/inside or lateral/outside ligaments have been torn from mild/moderate/severe. A severe sprain/tear can also have an associated bone fracture, making this injury even more complicated. Ankle instability: The most common symptoms are pain and instability caused by ligament laxity.. Since ligaments stabilize the joints, by definition ligament injury produces a loose joint and orthopedic instability. See an orthopaedic surgeon for evaluation imaging and treatment.
