Why do doctors choose to go by ultrasound for edd instead of lmp, even if lmp is known?

More accurate: LMP is a traditional but rather inaccurate way to estimate a baby's due date. Ultrasound is more accurate, because babies grow at different rates, so the date is adjusted based on your baby's individual measurements. That being said, we aren't all that great at predicting the future. Only 5% of babies are actually born on their due date. Hope this helps!

Most accurate: Sometimes women can be unsure of their LMP. The ultrasound measurements are believed to be more accurate in assessing gestational age. However, they often do coincide within 2-3 days.
