Break in skin: Anytime there is a break in the integrity of the skin there is a chance of infection. The important question is where has that dental bur been? There is a big difference if the bur was sterilized as compared to being in someone's mouth, especially if blood contaminated it. We would need more information in order to better advise you. Very Slight Chance: We cut, scratch, and burn our oral tissues all the time. That's just part of life. How many times have you burned your palate with hot pizza, or scratched your gums with a crunchy potato chip? Happens all the time. The mouth is teeming with bacteria, but these small injuries very rarely get infected...almost never. So, don't worry about a little scratch from a dental bur. Should heal in no time.
