Dont laugh but does exlax abuse cause any minor/serious side effects?

Yes: Laxative abuse can result in melanosis coli. Essentially cells die from wear and tear. When they die they spill out a cellular pigment that stains the colon. It's best you find out what is causing chronic constipation before you use a laxative long term. You don't want to mask an underlying problem.
