Yes: Laxative abuse can result in melanosis coli. Essentially cells die from wear and tear. When they die they spill out a cellular pigment that stains the colon. It's best you find out what is causing chronic constipation before you use a laxative long term. You don't want to mask an underlying problem.

Agree w Dr. Lombardi: Ex Lax is a Sennoside (Senna). Potential side effects w senna may include rectal bleeding (black, tarry, malodorous stools), abdominal cramping & pain, nausea / vomiting, diarrhea, gas, brown urine & feeling lightheaded. Dehydration, reduced potassium levels, liver problems,cardiac arrhythmia and kidney damage may occur.
