Hip pain: Stabbing brief pain that lasts a few minutes usually has either a muscle or nerve cause. In the hip area a common pain is psoas muscle pain from twisting and bending. This responds to exercise and stretches. Another cause is pinched nerve, especially in the overweight and with tight clothes or tool belts that pinch a nerve against the hip bone. Take them off!
