A member asked:

Diagnosed uti, spread to kidneys. stabbing pain left lower back, painful hips and ankles now. is this normal and what can i do to alleviate the pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not normal: Hi, if the UTI spread to kidneys, called pyelonephritis, then I hope that you are on antibiotics. Flank pain, under the back lower ribs, is common with pyelonephritis but painful hips and ankles is not a normal part of UTI or pyelonephritis. Therefore, it's best if you bring this to your doctor's attention so that the best treatment can be suggested.
