Varies : In some cases, blood clots can develop quickly, even over a few hours as in when someone gets a blood clot in surgery or from sitting on a plane for a long time. Blood clots can usually be seen by venograms or a Doppler ultrasound. there is a blood test (d dimer) that can give an indication as well. On the other hand there are other causes of leg pain as well; more workup may be needed.
