Cold: Both. Sometimes you have a viral infection and then get suprainfected with a bacteria. Sometimes you had a bronchitis/infection which was bacterial and did not resolve on its own/or on the initial meds ( immune system takes care up to a point, therefore even before antibiotics not everyone died from infections) and worsened and needs a change in treatment.
