Can you damage your brain with painreliever drugs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Brain damage: There are a lot of different types of "pain relievers". The short answer is yes if you end up dead from an overdose. The more subtle cognitive impairment that drugs can cause is worse from benzodiazepines (valium, xanax, (alprazolam) etc.) and alcohol than from opiates. The otc drugs can cause liver failure, kidney failure and intestinal bleeding. Best to find the underlying cause of the pain and treat it.
