A member asked:

Should i be worried about a resting rate that's consistently in the lower to mid 50s, especially with dizziness and fatigue symptoms? history, murmur

Dizziness & fatigue: Dizziness and fatigue can be caused by a low heart rate, especially if the blood pressure is also low. On the other hand, a heart rate in the 50s is possible for an otherwise healthy young person. Two things would really help here. 1. What is your blood pressure? 2. an EKG test. If they are both normal, it is time to think of other causes of your symptoms. Hope that helps!

Bradycardia: a slow heart rate, or bradycardia, can be your normal hr, a result of long term, intensive cardiovascular execise, or the result of disease, a problem with one of your heart's natural pacemakers or conduction system, or from conditions such as hypothyroid (low). if you are symptomatic, with dizziness and fatigue, you should see your primary care provider, who may refer you to a cardiologist
