Hyponatremia: Many pulmonary illnesses may cause a low sodium level, via induction of inappropriate SIADH. But respiratory alkalosis, by itself, should not lower the sodium level below the normal range. Often, people with respiratory alkalosis may have a lower serum chloride level, to balance for additional bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) ions. Hope that helps!
