Several: Diabetes mellitus, pre-existing untreated cellulitis, streptococcus pyogenes carriage.

Diabetes: Immunosuppresed state, diabetes, kidney disease, skin injury, blunt trauma, alcohol abuse are some of risk factors.

Skin injury or punct: Risks factors can be injury to skin or puncture wounds, peripheral vascular disease, any condition which causes a weakening of the immune system such as diabetes, organ transplant, chemotherapy and dialysis.
