A member asked:

As soon as an embolus travels through the heart and up a carotid artery can it cause an aneurysm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Blockage: Usually an embolus from the heart to the carotids causes obstruction of blood flow either in the carotid artery or other blood vessels feeding the brain. An aneurysm can occur without blockage or embolus and is usually related to an abnormality in the wall of the blood vessel.
